A pop of January

Updated: May 16

Welcome all explorers and makers!

It’s been a busy month for us full of wonderful excitement and magical events and we wanted to share some of these experiences with you. As the beginning of 2024 graced us with its arrival, we here at Maker Studio Kidz were preparing for a spectacular kick off to the year. We’ve been hard at work to bring you the best art and STEM inventions we possibly can.  Here’s some of the highlights of what we’ve been getting up to this past month.

Pop Art Camp

What is pop art?

  • Pop art is a style of art that was made to appeal to a mass audience. Because of this it incorporates bold colors, vibrant and eye-catching figures, and recognizable objects from everyday media. Our pop art camp in SF is one of our favorite camps to teach!

We dived into the world of Andy Warhol  by using this fluffy clay from Amazon to make bold bananas!

Through the use of color and texture we explained how this style of painting revolutionized the world of art

Andy Warhol was one of the leading figures in the pop art movement through his colorful and innovative designs.

Things we discovered in our camp:

  • Texture

  • Color

  • Contrast

  • Patterns

Vision Board Workshop

How many times have you set a goal for yourself for the new year, gotten excited about it, but life gets in the way?

It’s hard to keep track of our objectives when we don’t have something to remind us!

That’s why Maker Studio decided to host their annual vision board and sip workshop!

At this workshop we explore what we want to accomplish in the new year and express it on our visual boards through collaging and creativity! This is a fantastic way of making sure your goals are met in the new year.

Here’s how you can make your own vision board this year:

Steps to vision boarding

  • Set your goals

  • What is something you weren't able to achieve last year that you want to propose to yourself this year?

  • Divide your time

  • Figure out how much time you want to dedicate to relationships, work, personal growth, love, etc.

  • Start Vision Boarding!

  • According to all of the goals and time allocation you’ve made, you can start looking for images that represent who you want to be in 2024. Try to look for things that are eye-catching and that motivate you by just looking at them!

Teacher Training and Fun at the Studio

We had a very successful reunion with all of our teachers to plan for our long expected Makertopia camp!

What is Makertopia?

  • Makertopia is our exciting venture into what a world would look like if we had to build it from the bottom up! Genius inventors go on a journey of innovation to make fantastical gadgets, whimsical machines, and ingenious contraptions that will bring Makertopia’s world back to life!

It was empowering and exciting to be in person for our meetings the last two weeks of January. We don’t always have the chance to be all together in person. It was invigorating to get all of our ideas flowing to make our camps, classes, and events come to fruition in the best way possible.

What’s next?
