Nothing is better than summertime, and we are excited to celebrate its arrival at our sweetest camp of the summer, POP-tastic Creations camp! Join us from June 17-21 for a summer camp like no other, where we will be exploring the world of Pop Art through our favorite muse: desserts! Throughout the week, we will design and fill our very own sweet shops, selling everything from donuts to cupcakes to ice cream cones! Taking inspiration from our favorite Pop artists - Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Sister Corita Kent, and more - we will learn the basics of printmaking and sculpture, using a variety of materials and techniques. At the end of the week, we will have a grand opening, where campers will present their pastry-box shops to parents and other campers!

Monday 6/17: Getting Started
Who better than CANDY Warhol to kick off our week of Pop-tastic delights? Get introduced to the main elements of pop art through his most famous works, and begin to think about color, texture, and subject. Today, we will begin printmaking with an introduction to Gelli plate printing, creating our own layered dessert prints. In the afternoon, we will learn about Claes Oldenburg’s massive food sculptures while making our own clay cupcake bowls!
Tuesday 6/18: Gelli Printing and Clay
Let’s keep developing our new printmaking and sculpture skills as we start to build our sweet shops! Taking inspiration from the text-printing of Sister Corita Kent, we will design and print signs for our shops, using what we learned from Gelli printing yesterday. Later on, let’s keep playing with clay as we create our own donuts and other dessert sculptures!
Wednesday 6/19: Foam Printing and Soft Sculpture
Today, we will learn the basics of foam etching to design our own candy wrappers, billboard ads, and paper takeout bags for our shops. Later in the day, we will revisit Claes Oldenburg’s soft food sculptures as we repurpose socks to create our own cozy dessert plushies!
Thursday 6/20: Building Our Shop
Let’s build and decorate our dessert shops, all inside of a pastry box! Today, we will continue to incorporate the bright colors of the pop art movement as we paint our clay sweets, and create more soft sculptures using sponges!
Friday 6/21: Grand Opening
On our last day, we will open up our Dessert Maker Lab, where campers are invited to use their creativity to combine an eclectic range of recycled materials into new desserts of their own design! At the end of the day, we invite parents to come early for a personalized tour of their child’s sweet shop, and maybe a taste of some very special treats!
